Standing Desk Setup Guide: Heights, Habits and Common Mistakes

An electric standing desk is one of the most effective upgrades for a home office, but only if it’s set up correctly. Here’s a practical guide to getting the most out of yours.

Find your two heights

Sitting: with feet flat and thighs parallel to the floor, your elbows should rest at about 90° with the desktop at or just below elbow height. Standing: stand in the shoes you usually wear, relax your shoulders and set the desktop at elbow height. Most adults land between 28–30 inches seated and 40–46 inches standing.

Position the monitor

The top of the screen should be at or slightly below eye level, about an arm’s length away. Raise the monitor rather than tilting your head down to a laptop.

Don’t stand all day

Alternating is the goal. A good starting rhythm is 30–45 minutes seated, then 15 minutes standing, adjusted to what feels comfortable. Memory presets make switching effortless, so you’re more likely to keep doing it.

Common mistakes

  • Desk too high when standing, which shrugs the shoulders
  • Locking the knees — keep a slight bend and shift weight
  • Cables too short to allow the full height range
  • Standing on a hard floor without supportive shoes or a mat

Our 48×24 inch electric standing desk has memory presets so each of your heights is one touch away.
