You may spend more hours in your office chair than in your bed. These are the features that make the biggest difference for comfort and posture.
Adjustable seat height
Your feet should rest flat on the floor with knees roughly level with hips. Check the chair’s height range against your desk height.
Lumbar support
A built-in curve in the backrest supports the lower spine’s natural shape. You should feel contact at the small of your back without being pushed forward.
Breathable mesh
Mesh backs allow airflow, which keeps you cooler than foam and fabric during long sessions — a real advantage in warm rooms or summer months.
Flip-up armrests
Armrests help relax your shoulders while typing, but they can block you from pulling in close to the desk. Flip-up arms give you both options and let the chair tuck under the desk when you’re done.
Seat depth and stability
Leave about two to three fingers’ width between the seat edge and the back of your knees. Look for a five-star base and smooth-rolling casters.
